This article explains how to set the PROFINET device name and IP address of an A6-PN series servo drive directly through the drive configuration software on your PC.
Prerequisites
-
An A6-PN series servo drive
-
A standard Ethernet (RJ45) network cable
-
A PC with the STEPPERONLINE drive debugging/configuration software installed
Step-by-Step Procedure
Step 1 – Connect the PC to the Drive
Use an Ethernet cable to connect your PC directly to the CN3 or CN4 port on the A6-PN servo drive.

Step 2 – Open the Network Configuration Tool
Launch the drive debugging software on your PC and open the Network Configuration section.
Step 3 – Select the Network Adapter
In the Network Configuration window, select the network adapter (NIC) on your PC that is physically connected to the servo drive.

Step 4 – Scan for Connected Devices
Click the Scan button to detect devices on the selected network. The connected A6-PN drive should appear in the device list.

Step 5 – Enter the Device Name and IP Address
Select the detected drive and enter the desired Device Name and IP Address in the corresponding fields.

Step 6 – Apply the Settings
Click the button to assign the device name and IP address to the drive. The software will write the configuration to the drive.

Step 7 – Verify the Configuration
Perform another scan to confirm that the drive now reports the new IP address and device name you assigned. Once the values match, the configuration is complete.
Notes
-
Make sure the PC's network adapter is on the same subnet as the IP address you intend to assign, or use a direct point-to-point connection, so the software can communicate with the drive.
-
The device name must comply with PROFINET naming rules (lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens; no spaces or special characters).
-
If the drive does not appear during the scan, verify the Ethernet cable connection and confirm that the correct network adapter is selected.
