STEPPERONLINE offers a wide range of gearboxes. This article compares the features and specifications of each gearbox series to help you select the right model for your application.

  • EG Series Planetary Gearbox
  • MG Series Planetary Gearbox
  • TG Series Planetary Gearbox
  • Right Angle Planetary Gearbox
  • Helical Planetary Gearbox
  • Harmonic Gearbox
  • Worm Drive Gearbox
  1. EG Series Planetary Gearbox

The EG series is STEPPERONLINE's standard planetary gearbox line. It features high precision and high efficiency, making it suitable for most applications.

The backlash of EG series gearboxes is generally ≤20 arcmin, the maximum input speed is 3000 rpm, and the protection rating is IP54. The input flange conforms to standard NEMA dimensions and is compatible with various motors that use standard NEMA mounting sizes.

Note that certain EG series models (designated EGS) are specifically designed for short-shaft motors. When selecting an EGS series gearbox, verify that it is compatible with your motor's shaft length.

  1. MG Series Planetary Gearbox

The gears in the MG series planetary gearbox are manufactured using powder metallurgy, resulting in lower precision and a lower maximum input speed compared to the EG series. However, the MG series is more cost-effective, making it a good choice for applications that do not require high accuracy.

The backlash of MG series gearboxes is generally ≤50 arcmin, the maximum input speed is 1000 rpm, the protection rating is IP54, and the input flange conforms to standard NEMA dimensions. Compared with the EG series, the MG series gearbox has a shorter body, making it suitable for applications with limited installation space.

Note that MG series gearboxes are designed for short-shaft motors. When selecting an MG series gearbox, verify that it is compatible with your motor's shaft length.

  1. TG Series Planetary Gearbox

The TG series planetary gearbox is specifically developed by STEPPERONLINE for servo motors. Compared with the EG series, the TG series offers higher precision and is optimized for use with servo motors.

The backlash of the TG series gearbox is generally ≤15 arcmin, the maximum input speed is 3000 rpm, the protection rating is IP54, and the input flange conforms to standard servo motor dimensions, making it compatible with a wide range of standard-size servo motors.

  1. Right Angle Planetary Gearbox

The RYG series right-angle planetary gearbox features an output shaft oriented at 90° to the input shaft, making it suitable for applications that require a change in output direction.

The backlash of RYG series gearboxes is generally ≤20 arcmin, the maximum input speed is 3000 rpm, and the protection rating is IP54. The input flange conforms to standard NEMA dimensions and is compatible with various motors that use standard NEMA mounting sizes.

  1. Helical Planetary Gearbox

The helical planetary gearbox uses helical gears instead of conventional spur gears, providing higher accuracy and greater load capacity. Compared with the EG series planetary gearbox, the helical planetary gearbox offers higher precision and a larger maximum allowable torque, making it suitable for applications with demanding load and accuracy requirements.

The backlash of the helical planetary gearbox is generally ≤7 arcmin, the maximum input speed is 3000 rpm, and the protection rating is IP65. The input flange conforms to standard servo motor dimensions, making it compatible with servo motors but not stepper motors.

  1. Harmonic Gearbox

The harmonic gearbox transmits motion through the elastic deformation of the flexspline, delivering high precision and high torque. Harmonic gearboxes are suitable for applications that demand the highest levels of precision.

The backlash of harmonic gearboxes is generally ≤7 arcseconds, and the maximum input speed is 3500 rpm. The harmonic gearbox does not have a standard motor mounting interface, so a custom adapter flange is required to connect it to your motor.

Please note that STEPPERONLINE does not currently offer a compatible mounting flange for the harmonic gearbox. Please source an adapter flange from a third-party supplier based on your motor's mounting dimensions.

  1. Worm Drive Gearbox

The output shaft and input shaft of the worm gearbox are oriented at 90° on non-intersecting axes. Compared with planetary gearboxes, worm gearboxes can handle larger loads but offer lower precision, making them suitable for high-load applications with no strict accuracy requirements.

The backlash of the worm gearbox is generally ≤1 degree, and the maximum input speed is 1500 rpm; therefore, it is not recommended for use with brushless or servo motors, which typically operate at speeds exceeding this limit. STEPPERONLINE's worm gearbox supports a variety of flange specifications and can be adapted to stepper motors or three-phase asynchronous motors with various flange sizes.

Please note that STEPPERONLINE's worm gearbox does not include an output shaft. You will need to purchase the output shaft separately when ordering a worm gearbox.
