In this video, we demonstrate how to quickly test whether the PUL/DIR input terminals of a stepper driver are functioning properly using only a switching power supply, one stepper driver, and one stepper motor.
⚠️ Safety Notice: Always ensure the power supply voltage matches your driver's rated input. Disconnect power before making wiring changes. Exercise caution when probing live terminals to avoid short circuits or electric shock.
🔹 Simulate pulse signals by briefly and repeatedly touching a jumper wire between the PUL+ terminal and the positive supply (or PUL− to ground), causing the motor to step incrementally. Use an appropriate current-limiting resistor if required by your driver's input specifications.
🔹 Change the motor rotation direction by toggling the DIR signal — for example, by connecting or disconnecting a jumper wire between DIR+ and DIR−, or by switching the DIR input between high and low logic levels.
🔹 Ideal for troubleshooting when no motion controller or PLC is available.
This is a simple, direct, and effective method for diagnosing stepper driver input terminal issues, especially useful for beginners, technicians, and field troubleshooting scenarios.
If you need a quick way to verify whether your stepper driver input terminals are working properly, this video will help.
