This article explains the differences between the PG, HG, MG, and EG series gearboxes and their compatible motor output shaft specifications.
PG/HG Series Planetary Gearbox
The PG (economical) and HG (precision) gearboxes are both planetary gearboxes. Their input and output shaft structures are specialized, and these units are sold only as pre-assembled assemblies. Do not attempt to disassemble or separate the gearbox from the motor. These units are pre-assembled and calibrated at the factory.
Compatible Motor Output Shaft Types:
The motor output shafts compatible with the PG/HG gearbox are mainly divided into two types:
- Gear-cut output shaft

- Output shaft with press-fitted sun gear

EG Series High-Precision Planetary Gearbox
The EG series gearbox offers superior accuracy and reliability. It features a built-in input shaft coupling and is available in a variety of speed ratios to match most standard NEMA 17 stepper motors and brushless DC motors. Compared with the PG and HG series, the EG gearbox has the most flexible input shaft compatibility (widest tolerance range), and customers can install it themselves, provided the motor shaft dimensions fall within the specified tolerance range.

MG Series Gearbox
The gears of the MG series gearbox are manufactured using powder metallurgy and are suitable for applications requiring high precision at a low cost. It is a coaxial planetary gearbox with a built-in input shaft coupling that must be matched with a short-shaft motor.

Conventional Shaft Specifications
- Circular Shaft

- D-Cut Shaft

- Double D-Cut Shaft

The above types of motor output shafts can be directly installed with the EG/MG gearbox within the allowable size range.
