This article clarifies the logic-level input compatibility of our stepper motor drivers.
Based on our testing and validation, two of our newer driver models, CL57Y-20 and CL86Y-V20, reliably accept 3.3 V PUL (pulse) and DIR (direction) logic-level signals. This is a supported feature, listed under Key Features and in the comparison charts on each product page.

For other stepper motor driver models not mentioned above, 3.3 V logic-level compatibility is not listed as an official specification in their datasheets. While some controllers may appear to work in practice, this approach has a clear reliability limitation: the driver's logic-high threshold (V_IH) is close to 3.3 V. This means that any minor power-supply ripple, cable voltage drop, or electrical noise that causes the input voltage to fall—even to 3.1 V or below—can prevent the step pulse from being reliably recognized. This may result in missed step pulses or unexpected motor stalls.
Therefore, to ensure long-term reliability and system stability, we strongly recommend: For all driver models other than the CL57Y-20 and CL86Y-V20, use the standard 5 V logic level for control signals. The 5 V level provides sufficient noise margin against voltage fluctuations, ensuring robust signal integrity across a wide range of operating conditions.
