Vacuum-compatible motors differ from standard motors only in the materials used; their mechanical structure and dimensions remain identical.
Taking a stepper motor as an example: if a stepper motor is manufactured in a vacuum-compatible variant with the same dimensions and electrical specifications as its standard counterpart, then a stepper drive capable of driving the standard version can also drive the vacuum-compatible version. However, because the drive itself is not vacuum-rated, it must operate in a standard atmospheric environment. In most applications, only the motor operates inside the vacuum chamber. The drive remains in ambient atmospheric conditions and connects to the motor via cables.
As for drives that must themselves operate within a vacuum environment, STEPPERONLINE currently does not offer production-ready products for this specific application.
